Designed by legendary golf architect Tom Doak, the par 71 golf course will challenge golfers of all skill levels. Completed in 2004, Cape Kidnappers placed 13th in the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World for 2009-2010 by the prestigious publication – Golf Digest.
Cape Kidnappers was also in good company with her sister property Kauri Cliffs placed 25th in the Top 100 Courses outside the USA.
As designer Tom Doak said, "Cape Kidnappers is not true links terrain, with the wrinkles of sand dunes; instead the land tilts toward the sea as a series of ridges jutting out toward the edge of the cliffs. Yet, the play is seaside golf at its finest. The surface is firm and fast, the conditions can be windy, and the player who can control his trajectory will be master of the course.
Cape Kidnappers is joint host to The Kiwi Challenge, with its sister course, Kauri Cliffs. In 2008 The Kiwi Challenge hosted PGA stars Hunter Mahan, Anthony Kim, Adam Scott and Brandt Snedeker.

Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club has hosted the New Zealand Open championship on twelve occasions including the 2002 New Zealand Open in which Tiger Woods played. It is rated as the best links course in the country because of its qualities as a traditional links.
The well drained undulating fairways, fierce rough, fast greens and intimidating bunkers combine with the naturally windy coastal weather to create a truly challenging golfing experience.
The course is built on the site of an earlier nine hole course established in 1929 with a second nine added in 1937. The modern course was conceived in the 1940s. Former Australian Open Champion, Alex Russell completed the course design by 1949 which remains essentially unchanged to this day.
