You will begin your journey in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand's second largest wine growing region and one of the oldest. Chardonnay is the most widely planted grape variety, but a long ripening season attracts a high percentage of later-ripening red grape varieties. Enjoy a full day private tour of the best of Hawke’s Bay wines and scenery.
From Hawke’s Bay you will travel south to Wairarapa and your accommodation for the next three nights at the stunning Wharekauhau Country Estate. While small in terms of total wine production, Wairarapa's boutique wineries have big international reputations for the quality of their Pinot Noir wines. Enjoy an afternoon tasting and exploring the wineries of nearby Martinborough with your guide.
You will then head to the South Island and the best known wine region of New Zealand, Marlborough, which has an enviable international reputation for producing the best Sauvignon Blanc in the world. It also makes very good Chardonnay and Riesling and is fast developing a reputation for high quality Pinot Noir. Of the region's grapes, one third are planted in Sauvignon Blanc. Enjoy a full day tour of Marlborough’s wineries with your guide, whilst staying in the heart of the vines at beautiful Timara Lodge, enjoying the renowned cuisine of their Michelin trained chef.
Departing Marlborough you will drive down the east coast to Claremont Estate which sits in the Waipara Gorge, just minutes from the relatively new wine producing region of Waipara. Spend time enjoying the wonderful hospitality and explore the unique geography of Claremont’s 2,400 acre working farm, as well as visiting some of the regions excellent wineries, which are creating excitement and are fast becoming recognised for the production of very good quality Riesling wines.
You will then head south to Eichardt’s Private Hotel in the international resort town of Queenstown, where you will spend your final four nights in New Zealand. Situated on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, and surrounded by the snow capped Southern Alps, Queenstown offers a wide range of exciting activities. For those just wanting to relax there is golf, trout fishing, garden tours, fine dining, excellent shopping and plenty of world class wine. Central Otago is the world’s southern most wine producing region and New Zealand's only "continental" region. The summers are hot and dry, and the winters crisp and snowy. Soil structures are very different to those of New Zealand's other regions with heavy mineral deposits in silt loams. Some of New Zealand’s very best Pinot Noir wines are produced in this region. Spend a full day with your private guide exploring this interesting and spectacular wine producing region.
Lookout Point can tailor your vacation to feature the wine regions of New Zealand including vineyard visits, lectures and importantly tastings, with some of New Zealand’s finest winemakers.
Fourteen nights including both North & South Islands.
This itinerary visits the wine producing areas of Hawke’s Bay, Wairarapa (Martinborough), Marlborough, Waipara and Central Otago with a focus on wines but also incorporating some of the finest scenic and leisure activities available.
