Wanaka, sheltered behind the Southern Alps in the South Island of New Zealand, is the ideal holiday destination with its own brand of luxury New Zealand Lodges. Try the Whare Kea Lodge on 60 acres of farmland by Lake Wanaka or the Riverrun Boutique Lodge set on an escarpment with 180 degree views of the surrounding mountains. In Wanaka there is something for everyone, whatever your age, ability or sense of adventure. From fishing to flight-seeing, tramping to tennis, horse trekking to heli-skiing, gold panning to golfing. Close to the Mount Aspiring National Park, the area is a natural mountain and lake paradise.
Wanaka is about one hours drive from Queenstown. However, while the pace of life here is far more sedate and less touristy than in Queenstown, Wanaka features many of the same high adrenalin activities and adventures but without the bustle and crowds. So if you’re looking for adventure but in a more quiet and secluded atmosphere, Wanaka may just be the place.
