Greetings from New Zealand!

"My name is David Hiatt and I am the founder of Lookout Point. I was born and educated in the South Island, but have been lucky enough to live, work and travel throughout New Zealand. After also living and travelling extensively throughout the world including Canada, the United States, Europe and Africa, my wife and I decided to move back to our homeland.

We have been very fortunate to experience some of the most amazing places throughout the world and we are forever recapping stories from our travels, but to us, there has never been one destination that has created memories and conversations like that of our own country New Zealand.

The more we travelled, the more passionate we felt about our great country, and the more we wanted to build a boutique company that allowed us to share the very best of New Zealand with the world. Not coach tours. Not off the shelf tours. Not numbers. We wanted to deliver unique experiences to couples, families and small groups. My wife Nichola once said to me, "the type of trip we would recommend to our friends". And she was right. Taking the hassle out of travel with personalised, yet professional, friendly service.

Best things about travel: New places and new people. Very refreshing for the soul. New foods as well...although I am still trying to define the word moderation.

Style of travel you enjoy most: We like a semi-independent style of travel with the ability to experience local people, cultures, scenery and adventures. Sometimes getting lost is the best way to discover the true local spirit!

What I love most about Lookout Point: Putting smiles on our clients faces! It is wonderful seeing and hearing the reactions of our clients enjoying their New Zealand adventures. I also really enjoy getting to know some of our clients well and meeting their families.

Interests outside of Lookout Point: Family, skiing, golf, wines and trying to grow vegetables.

Favourite destinations in New Zealand: Now that would be telling! I love the mountains and lakes of Central Otago, although the golf courses and coastal views of the North Island would be a close second.

Favourite destinations outside New Zealand: Lake Louise, Canada (where I proposed to my wife); Namibia; Spain; New York City and Colorado, USA.

If I wasn’t at my desk now I would be: Exploring new places with my family.

Best invention ever: The air plane as it allows us to explore the world and without it our business would not exist! Close second place to the Blackberry.

Worst invention ever: The Blackberry...it was supposed to free up my time!

Favourite airline: Air New Zealand. Wonderful service and a welcoming face when I am travelling back from overseas.

Favourite drink: Pure New Zealand tap water!

My goals this year: To continue to grow Lookout Point by providing our clients with the most amazing New Zealand experiences and to spend as much time with my family as possible.
